Metrixel 2026.3.2: Motion Generation (Experimental). Describe a motion, get an animation.
2026-10-19
Metrixel 2026.3.2 introduces Motion Generation, an Experimental feature available on both the Standard and Professional plans. Simply describe the motion or action you want in plain English, and Metrixel will build it as an animation clip that you can preview, refine and save as GLB. (On Professional, you can use it for Motion Retargeting.) It runs on your machine — no cloud service or no uploads.
Metrixel 2026.3.2 introduces Motion Generation, an Experimental feature on both the Standard and Professional plans. Simply describe the motion you would like to generate, written in plain English. Which then Metrixel builds it as an animation clip you can preview, refine and save as GLB. You can even use it for Motion Retargeting if you have the Professional plan. It runs on your machine as well, so no cloud service and no uploads.
Before this, Metrixel can move an animation you already had onto any character. With 2026.3.2, you can now make said animation in the first place. Though of course, do note that this is still in an Experimental phase, so it may not work as well as one might expect from such a feature.
What's new
Motion Generation
Open the Motion Generation (Experimental) section in the main window and click Generate…. Then, simple type what you would like to generate. For instance:
"Walk for 10 seconds, turn left, then jog for 8 seconds and wave with the right hand for the last 3 seconds."
Metrixel plans the motion, composes it on its built-in character, and plays it back in the dialog.
- There are seven basic actions in this release: Walk, Run/Jog/Sprint (a jog is a slower run, a sprint a faster one), Turn, Stand, Jump (on the spot or forward, once or several times), Wave, Carry a bag in one hand. These can be in sequence or simultaneous where applicable, such as a wave while walking.
- Durations, hands, directions and pace will come from your words: "Walk slowly for 12 seconds", "Turn right 90 degrees", "Jog for 15 seconds, then stand for 3 seconds".
- Refine, not start from scratch. Follow-up requests edit the motion you have. For example, "Make the run slower", "Remove the wave", "Wave with the left hand instead", "Make it 20 seconds long". Undo and Redo are also always one click away.
- It asks when it matters. It is not something that simply takes the requests and quietly fails. When a request leaves out which hand to wave with, which way to turn or how long to move, or its parts do not add up to the total length you gave (“… Total 7 seconds”), the dialog will ask. There's also a defaulting feature which it uses and will indicate so (Assumed: …). When the language model rephrases a request, the dialog shows how it was read (Read as: …). And of course, if that would deviate away from what you would like, it asks you to confirm first.
- Save and reuse. Save option simply writes the motion as a GLB into your output folder (or be prompted into a folder of your choosing). On Professional plan, you can tick Add to Motion Retargeting Sources and just like that, the clip is saved and ready to be retargeted onto your own characters in the same project.
- From the command line. We have never forgotten about CLI methods. For instance,
metrixel --mode cli --motion_generation "Walk for 5 seconds, then jump once.", then save it under--output(name it with--motion_generation_name). A request that leaves something open stops and prints the question with the--motion_generation_answer. Just like with the GUI version.
Ethics - Built from licensed data, running on your machine
Motion Generation assembles motion from a library of openly licensed motion capture and studio-authored gestures. For the method of moving changes into another, for example walk to run, run to stand, we use a learned transition model that generates the in-between frames. A language model then reads your request and rephrases it into the actions Metrixel knows; the motion itself is always planned by Metrixel's own rules.
We would like to emphasise - Everything runs locally. Your characters and your animations stay on your machine, and so do your words. Though of course, unless you optionally choose to send us a request for a motion (see below) via the help email. Nothing is uploaded. The needed models are downloaded on demand from our download server the first time you need them, and each download can be cancelled:
| Download | Size | Needed? |
|---|---|---|
| Motion Library | about 46 MB | Yes. The clips Motion Generation composes from. |
| Learned Transitions | about 6 MB | Recommended. Without it, Metrixel uses a simpler built-in blend. |
| Language model (Qwen3-1.7B) | about 1.1 GB | Recommended. Without it, Metrixel reads your request with its built-in parser, which understands fewer phrasings. |
Installed versions are kept side by side.

Tell us what to add next
As we have mentioned before, the amount of movements and motions possible are still quite small, and this feature as a whole is still in its experimental phase. The vocabulary is small on purpose for the time being, with plans to grow its features and capabilities in the subsequent releases. You can try it for yourself too if you have downloaded. Ask for something it does not know yet, such as "Dance for 5 seconds", and Metrixel will say so along with a Request this motion… button.
Again, you will see exactly what will be sent. That is, your own words, your app version, operating system you are using. And these can all be edited before pressing Send; it goes to us through EntVista Hub from your signed-in account, and we will reply by email. Nothing is sent unless you press Send, and we will also not take or mine any sort of hidden data away from you. We really do value your privacy!
Improvements
- A new built-in character. We cannot just have Motion Generation without a character to refer and show it on. So the one skeleton-only sources (such as BVH) are first retargeted onto, all now will be presented onto a sculpted mannequin with dark joints and the EVS logo on its chest. On top of that, there will be a new skeleton, laid out the way game engines lay out a humanoid: a root bone, five spine and two neck bones, a metacarpal under each finger and twist bones on the arms and legs, with EVS's own bone names. Motion on it is unchanged, for the new bones carry no animation of their own in this release. Who knows what our mascot might be in the future?
- Retargeting always uses the current reference character. The built-in character that skeleton-only sources (such as BVH) are first retargeted onto is now refreshed whenever its content changes after an update, not only when its size does.
- Natural shoulders in retargeted motion. Your character's collarbones now keep their own rest pose, so motion capture, skeleton-only sources such as BVH above all, no longer leaves the shoulders raised. The arms keep their motion.
Known limitations
- Experimental. Seven actions in English. Motions outside them are refused rather than approximated.
- Up to 5 minutes per motion, and up to 1,000 characters per request. A longer request is refused with a message saying so; make a long sequence as several motions.
- Standing jumps only. On the spot or forward jump. A jump over or onto something is not supported yet.
- The motion is made on Metrixel's built-in character. Save it and retarget it (Professional) to put it on your own rig or character.
- Hands hold their rest pose. Fingers are not animated. We might have something in the future, but for the time being, not yet!
- One-handed carrying only. A carry with both hands is refused rather than turned into a one-handed one. We will expand on it sometime in the future, of course.
- Changes into and out of a run can occasionally look abrupt for a moment. Walk-only motions are smoother; we are improving run transitions next.
- The motion is assembled from a library, so repeated requests reuse the same family of movements rather than inventing new ones.
- The first request after opening the dialog takes a few seconds while the language model loads. Though it's only one-time. After that, a request typically takes under a second.
Pricing
Motion Generation is included in both Standard and Professional plans, no per-generation credits. Free accounts see the section while generating itself needs a Standard or Professional plan.
On Standard Plan, Metrixel saves the motion as an animated GLB. On Professional Plan, you can retarget it onto your own characters using Motion Retargeting, alongside Mesh-Aware Correction, batch mode, SDF export, TIFF export and USD animation export.
